The term ‘Sumak’ (Soumak) describes a flat-weave technique; it can be referred to as ‘weft float brocading’. Sumak may constitute the entire fabric of a carpet, or be used to form decorative band or individual motifs, adding interest and texture to Kilim and the end of the pile carpet. When the Sumak constitutes the whole fabric it is necessary to weave in at frequent intervals a thinner foundation weft, which is then hidden by the surface weft. This maintains the strength of the fabric and prevents it from becoming to loose.
This one is woven with good quality wool and is tightly woven for a no pile style rug as well as being decorative and beautiful. The design is very interesting and is very traditional in its stature of quality Sumak.
