Isfahan of Iran

Isfahan was the Capital of Persia during the region of Shah-Abbas The Great (1571-1629) and had the most beautiful palaces, mosques and libraries. Architecture as well as carpet weaving flourished at this time.

Isfahan is without a doubt the most elegant, the stateliest and the most agreeable of the cities of Persia. It will not permit the visitor to forget, for an instant, that it was once a Capital and one of the most splendid capitals of that astonishing period of history, the end of the 16^th century. It possesses an air of tradition, of dignity and breeding.

Isfahan was already a considerable city before Shah Abbas made it his capital. In the eleventh century it was described by a traveller as the largest city in the Persian speaking part of the empire. A wall some 14 miles in circuit surrounded it, and it contained a magnificent mosque, fifty caravanserais and two hundred bankers. 

Rare and precious carpets from this period are now kept in the museums all over the world.

Very fine well-knotted carpets are still being made in Isfahan today. The fascinating designs using lines and arabesques that appear on Islamic architecture also appear on the modern Isfahan carpets. Medallions are the most usual motifs, however, animals and flowers are also used. They are one of the finest carpets coming out of Iran now and are very popular among the lovers of Classical Persian Carpets.    

This one is woven with excellent quality wool & silk and is hard wearing as well as being decorative and extremely beautiful. The design is very interesting and is a very profound and dignified in its time taken to weave the rug, their quality is very unmatched by carpets being woven in the world, as they use the finest of material and dyes to keep up their traditions.
